As part of the PCB/UNDP/GEF project, Sea Marconi has been invited to present its solutions at the workshop on PCB/POPs treatment (decontamination and disposal), which will be held on 21st and 22nd July 2015 in Brasilia (Brazil).

The event will see managers and technical experts gathered together from the energy, industrial, transportation, health, agricultural and other sectors, which all use electrical equipment with contaminated insulating fluids, or which are responsible for the environmental management of PCB waste (or other persistent organic pollutants). Members of the audience will include representatives of the federal states of Brazil, with an estimated attendance rate of approximately 200 participants.

The workshop will be technical, Sea Marconi and other potential suppliers of services for the decontamination/disposal of dangerous waste will have the opportunity to present their treatment, highlighting the technology and relative performance, just like the advantages and disadvantages of onsite processing.

After the event, we will be able to provide more details on the potential suppliers, the technologies proposed and make a comparison with that proposed by Sea Marconi.

On 29th November 2010, a cognitive meeting took place at the headquarters of Sea Marconi in Collegno (Turin- Italy) with doct. Nurlan Yeskendirov, project manager charged by UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) to evaluate the best solutions for the management of the PCBs problem in the generation, transportation and use of electric power in Kazakhstan.

Talking of natural resources, Kazakhstan is probably the Country with the highest pro-capita wealth in the World: it has 60% of the mineral resources of the ex Soviet Uni­on, with large quantities of iron and coal, besides having oil, natural gas and different metals used by electronic, nuclear and missile industries. Kazakhstan has over 15 million inhabitants, over a surface almost 10 times bigger than our Country and a pro-capita GDP of 11,434 US $ (2008).

Sea Marconi, thanks to the leadership matured in international circles, configures itself as the ideal technological partner by offering BAT – BEP (Best Environmental Technique – Best Environmental Practice) thanks to “PCBs Free” Program: BAT/BEP – Inventory, Control, Management, Decontamination of Electrical Transformer contaminated by PCBs respecting the Stockholm Convention relative to POPs and the CENELEC norm (CLC/TR 50503).

Sea Marconi, which targets toward the conservation of resources through the complete decontamination of the oils contained by electrical equipment that can be kept in operation. This means preventing the production of waste, disposal, incineration, management costs of contaminated materials.

Sea Marconi provides the intervention with decontamination mobile units (DMUs) dehalogenating and detoxifying the PCBs present in the transformer and oil, reinstating optimised dielectric properties in compliance with standard IEC 60422.

The treatment against PCBs, CDP Process^®, is performed on-site (also with the transformer in operation) in continuous, closet-loop mode, without draining, even partially, the transformer.

The Regional Capacity Building Workshop on Best Available Techniques / Best Environmental Practices and Environmental Sound Management of POPs Wastes and PCBs for Asia”, has just taken place in Beijin from November 16 through 20.

The title of the event says a lot about the topics of the workshop, but for the general public, it is appropriate to add some information, emphasising the importance of the event and Sea Marconi’s role.

The meeting dealt with the state of the art of initiatives taken by the Countries represented about the management and decontamination of POPs (Persistent Organic Contaminants) and PCBs.

The Capacity Building Workshop in Beijin gathered 57 participants, among them:

– 29 delegates from 14 Countries of the Asian Continent (Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Kiribati, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Sri Lanka e Thailand) – 28 personalities from inter-government organisations (e.g. Stockholm Convention, UNDP and UNIDO), non-government organisations (e.g. International POPs Elimination Network – IPEN), Universities, Research Centres and private companies like Sea Marconi. The population represented by the delegates is very impressive: about 2.6 billion people.

Vander Tumiatti, who participated last Summer to the Workshop organised by the Secretariat of the Stockholm Convention in Nairobi has been invited to share his competency in favour of the Asian Continent as well.

Sea Marconi is confirmed being an international leader for the know-how accumulated and, in particular, for the decontamination of oils contaminated by PCBs.
