With the new norm CENELEC CLC/TR 50503 (02/2010) a targeted response to the management of the PCBs risk

Tuesday March 30th, 2010

The new European technical norm CENELEC CLC/TR 50503, titled: Guidelines for the inventory control, management, decontamination and/or disposal of electrical equipment and insulating liquids containing PCBs has finally been issued.

This norm represents the best response for the activities for the management of the life cycle of fleets of electrical equipment with insulating fluids in operation finalised toward preventing or mitigating the risks deriving from PCBs and POPs (Persistent Organic Pollutants) in accordance with the indications of the Stockholm Convention (May 2001) and PEN (PCB Elimination Network).

The new norm CLC/TR 50503, resulting form a proposal by the Italian Committee CEI-CT 10 that had already developed the Italian norm CEI 10-38 (09/2002) has been recently adopted by a vast majority and adapted to the requirements of the European Countries*. This working group, composed by experts nominated by the national technical committees, has been brilliantly coordinated by Prof. Ing. Massimo Pompili of the University la Sapienza of Rome (Dept. of electric power) in his quality as president of the Committee CEI CT 10 and secretary of IEC TC 10.

Thanks to the adoption of norm 50503 it is possible to respond fully to the indications of the Stockholm Convention and, most of all, to have a reference guide for the implementation of the most effective strategies against PCBs at a global level.

Vander Tumiatti and the other Sea Marconi’s experts, in view of the multi decades experience in the international normative field, actively participated in writing both the Italian and the European norms. Thus, Sea Marconi, as of today is able to guarantee a full compliance of the “PCBs Free Program” projects with the requisites prescribed by Norm 50503, providing an integrated response with the supply of services, technology and training (with advanced e-learning techniques). Sea Marconi is able to operate at International level (Eastern Europe, North and South America, Africa, Middle East, Asia) offering an elevated level of personalisation based upon different local operational conditions.
