Oil Sampling Kit for hermetically sealed transformer

Many operators consider oil sampling from hermetic transformers a routine “low-risk” activity.

This assumption overlooks a critical issue: in the absence of power supply or at particularly low internal temperatures, the transformer’s internal pressure drops below atmospheric, creating negative pressure.

Under these conditions, sampling becomes critical, with a real risk of accidental air ingress into the sample.

That is why we developed our oil sampling kit for hermetic transformers.

The kit is designed to collect a perfect sample even under negative pressure, in full compliance with IEC 60475.

In Sea Marconi’s approach, insulating liquid is the transformer’s “blood”.

If sampling introduces air into the specimen, the dissolved gas analysis (DGA) performed in the laboratory will be distorted — and an incorrect analysis compromises any assessment of the transformer’s condition. A field mistake can translate into a wrong maintenance decision and an avoidable plant shutdown.

A solution that guarantees a sealed sample

The kit provides vacuum-tight sealing that eliminates air introduction into the sample even under negative pressure conditions. The result is what matters most: an intact sample that delivers a reliable DGA and therefore a diagnosis you can act on.

Kit features:

  • Multipurpose manual pump — The reversible manual vacuum pump with pressure gauge overcomes negative pressure during sampling and restores the oil level during top-up.
  • Multi-fluid compatibility — The kit can be used with different fluids: mineral oils, natural and synthetic esters, silicones, free gases.
  • Fittings for multiple sampling configurations — The comprehensive set of fittings allows direct hydraulic connection to protection relays (DGPT2, DMCR, RIS), Buchholz relays or gas accumulation devices.

Features of the re-engineered version

The kit has recently been re-engineered based on direct feedback from Sea Marconi’s field technicians, who use it every day in the most diverse operating conditions.

Video tutorial, training and specialist support

  • The kit includes complete technical documentation in PDF format with full instructions for the sampling procedure.
  • To further support its customers, Sea Marconi has developed a step-by-step video tutorial that guides the operator through a correct and repeatable sampling procedure, reducing the risk of field errors.
  • For those requiring a higher level of support, Sea Marconi offers dedicated specialist consultancy: on-site technical assistance, operator training and interpretation support, delivered by the same experts who work on assets and in the laboratory.

Sampling insulating liquid from hermetic equipment requires both this kit and a standard oil sampling kit.

Using both Sea Marconi kits together guarantees correct assembly and sealing of all components, ensuring sampling that fully complies with IEC 60475.
