***UPDATE*** EURODoble 2024: Sea Marconi Brings Expertise in Retrofilling with Natural Esters to the Stage

Monday October 7th, 2024

The EURODoble 2024 is about to kick off, and Sea Marconi will be among its key players. Riccardo Maina, our head of the chemical laboratory and secretary of the IEC TC10, is one of the speakers at this prestigious conference with a speech titled “Retrofilling Transformers with Natural Esters: The Importance of Fluid-Atmosphere Segregation.”

EURODoble 2024, celebrating its 30th anniversary, will be held from October 7 to 10, 2024, in Manchester. EURODoble is a key platform for experts to share knowledge and innovations in the energy sector. The event continues its mission to address industry concerns through education, discussion, and collaboration.

Sea Marconi’s participation in this high-level event underscores our ongoing commitment to innovation and excellence in transformer and insulating fluid management. Riccardo Maina’s presentation will showcase our expertise in retrofilling with natural esters, emphasizing the critical importance of fluid-atmosphere segregation.

Abstract of Riccardo Maina’s Presentation

A growing number of transformers filled with mineral oil are being retrofilled with natural esters. These esters are recommended only for sealed units with segregation from the atmosphere (IEC 62770). Numerous cases show that this recommendation is overlooked, leading to rapid fluid aging and significant changes in its chemical-physical properties. This paper reports such cases and non-invasive procedures for fluid segregation from the atmosphere, even for smaller transformers. Optimized methods for retrofilling with natural esters are also described.
