IEC 62701, Sea Marconi also at the forefront of recycled oil solutions

Saturday February 14th, 2015

In accordance with the IEC 62701 standard (Fluids for electrotechnical applications – Recycledmineral insulating oils for transformers and switchgear), Sea Marconi has developed an ad hoc project for one of the most important European suppliers of transformer oils.

The project involves the implementation of a system for the assessment (technical-economical and environmental) of insulating oil properties before and after their reclamation (oil regeneration).

In summary, the aim is on one hand to identify the critical properties of the oils, and on the other to assess the technical-economical impact of transforming recycled oils to make them compliant with legislative standards. In particular, the PCB content must be lower than 2 mg/Kg (determined using the IEC 61619 standard), and the DBDS content must be lower than 5 mg/Kg (in accordance with standard IEC 62697).

In view of this collaboration, Sea Marconi has studied a sustainable technological solution that allows partners to treat used oil, placing recycled oils on the market that are compliant with IEC 62701, maximising the efficiency of their treatment and reducing operational costs.
