Last week, on 6th March, the Seminar titled “Seminar on Best Solutions for the Problem of Corrosive Sulfur (DBDS) on Electrical Transformers” organized by Sea Marconi and Teyseer Motor was held in Doha (capital of Qatar) [Press review]. The event provided the participants a greater knowledge and awareness about the problem of corrosive sulfur and, most of all, the possible countermeasures. This problem is very sensitive in the Persian Gulf Countries, however, the knowledge on this matter not always reflects the technical and normative state of the art.
Sea Marconi clarified with the participants the origin of the problem of the corrosivity of oils, the evolution of the corrosion phenomenon and how the latter can degenerate in a failure.
The second part of the interventions outlined a panorama of possible countermeasures, clarifying that both the change of the insulating oil and passivation cannot be considered as definitive solutions for the corrosive sulfur problem. Currently, the selective Depolarisation Chedcos by Sea Marconi is the only really effective and definitive solution to the problem of oil corrosivity.
The event in Doha has gathered 80 participants representing the major industrial groups of Qatar, among them QAPCO, Qatalum (Globetrain ltd), Qatar gas, Qatar petrochemical Co. Ltd, Qatar steel company, Kahramaa, Oryx gtl, Peninsular Petrotech Engg.
The feedback collected during the meeting was very positive, with several requests for further deepening. The presence by Sea Marconi in the Persian Gulf continues with commitment and constancy: after the first depolarization job for corrosive sulfur at QVC (Qatar Vinyl Company Ltd.), important negotiations are almost concluded not only in Qatar, but also in other Countries in the Gulf.
