It is recommended to carry out (and keep constantly updated) the inventory of transformers with the indication of the equipment contaminated by PCBs exceeding the prescribed thresholds during all the phases of the life cycle.

It is recommended to modify the maintenance practices by:

acquiring PCBs-free new oils verifying the oils during the acceptance phases of the supply according to the prescribed methods
demanding that the factory tests are carried out using PCBs-free oils and monitoring, also during the subsequent phases of the life cycle, that the treatments of the oil and equipment are not a source of cross-contamination.
in compliance with Directive 96/59/EC, the equipment containing PCBs, should be subject , under determined circumstances, to measures capable of preventing and/or mitigating the degradation processes and the leakage of PCBs, to ensure the safety of workers, public health and the environment, besides complying with the prescriptions of the Convention of Stockholm on persistent organic pollutants (POPs).
incrementing the frequency of the analyses of the insulating oils contaminated by PCBs in order to minimize the environmental impact caused by possible malfunctions of the equipment

It is recommended to read and implement what prescribed and suggested by CENELEC CLC/TR 50503:2010. For indication purposes, we copy the index of the document from which it is possible to infer the application circumstances
